FIRESTORM 2007
November 2007 entry:
Unbelievably our community has suffered through another inferno. Some of you know I've been trying to start a new business. I've been delayed in getting my business going, first by a week's trip to Virginia to visit a certain college freshman...then Friday Oct. 19th I had surgery on my leg (had a screw removed and my knee scoped out for future improvements)...and then on Monday the 22nd after evacuation I had a fall and cracked some ribs (the dog made me do it...but she didn't mean to). Due to the pain and lack of sleep I haven't felt much like doing real work on the business plan, so instead I've spent my time to help my Virginian college students and cousins back east see what's happened here. So... I thought I would share with everyone these photos of devastation, as well as some remarkable saves. The homes that remain standing are really more astounding...the fire fighters were fighting the worst Santa Ana winds I have experienced in my lifetime here, and my friend's dad who is also a native said they were the worst he can remember in his 87 years. Since emailing was tedious I ended up putting together this website. Please remember that each photo was someone's home full of memories, so please lift a prayer for the owners of each and every one of the lost homes. (approx 70 in our church alone have lost homes...Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian ). The miracle really is that not more were lost. By all logic, a great deal of Poway should have burned, but for the grace of God so many were spared. I love the headline from the San Diego Union Tribune on Wednesday, Oct 24th..." Help from Above" (a double entendre meaning both helicopters were finally able to fly and God slowed down the winds that the weathermen thought were going to blow as hard Tuesday as they did on Monday).
